Frequently asked questions

How do I translate a word?

Press and hold the word for about half a second while reading. The translation appears in your native language, and the word is saved automatically to the My Words tab. Tap the sides of the page to turn it, or the middle to show the menu.

Where do I find stories?

The Stories tab has five ready stories for your language and level. They are included in the app and work offline. Tap Read more stories to let AI write a new story about your interests. Your saved stories stay available.

How does listening work?

Tap play in a story to hear it read aloud while the words are highlighted. Included recordings and audio you have already played can be replayed without using any new time. New AI-generated audio is free for 3 hours in total (not per month). Storylang Plus includes 10 hours of new audio per calendar month, and Plus subscribers can buy 10 extra hours when the allowance runs out. Purchased time does not expire and remains available after the subscription ends.

Can I read my own books?

Yes. Open the Books tab, tap + and pick one or more files. Storylang supports EPUB, PDF, Kindle (MOBI, AZW, AZW3 – without DRM), Word (DOCX), ODT, RTF, FB2, HTML, Markdown, plain text, subtitle files (SRT, VTT) and ZIP archives containing a book. Reading your own files is free. Listening to imported files requires an active Plus subscription, including replaying saved audio.

How does word practice work?

The My Words tab collects every word you have looked up. You can create word lists and move words into them (long-press or right-click a word). Tap Practice for flashcards with spaced repetition: words come back right before you are about to forget them, and words that are due are practised first. You can practise in either direction, set how many new words and reviews you want each day in Settings, and turn on optional reminders.

Which languages are supported?

You can learn English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Turkish, Indonesian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, at levels A1–C2. Translations and explanations arrive in your native language. The app itself is available in English, Swedish, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German and Italian.

Does Storylang work offline?

Included stories, bundled recordings and downloaded content work offline. New translations, AI answers and new audio need an internet connection. If you are online and an AI feature still fails, wait a minute and try again; if the problem persists, email me.

How do I manage or cancel Plus?

Plus is a monthly subscription handled by Apple. Manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings, at least 24 hours before it renews.

How do I change languages, level, theme or text size?

Use the Settings tab, or tap Aa while reading to change the font and text size. The app guide can be replayed from Settings → Help → Show the app guide.

How do I get my words on a new phone?

Turn on word backup on your old phone: open Settings → Account → Back up your words and continue with Apple. On the new phone, open the same screen and continue with the same Apple ID. Your saved words come back with their practice progress, so reviews continue where you left off. Word backup is optional; everything else works without it.

If the old phone is lost, it stays signed in to the backup. To sign it out, first let the new phone restore your words (they appear in My Words), then choose Delete account on the same screen and continue with Apple again. Your words stay on the new phone and are backed up to a new account, and the lost phone can no longer use the backup.

How do I delete my data?

Everything lives on your device unless you turn on the optional word backup (Settings → Account → Back up your words), which keeps a copy of your saved words and their practice progress. To delete that copy, open the same screen and choose Delete account. Deleting the app deletes everything on the device. To remove a single book, swipe it in the Library; to remove a saved word, swipe it in My Words.

Privacy

Storylang works without an account (word backup is optional) and shows no ads. On iOS, it measures our own TikTok ads only if you allow tracking when iOS asks; otherwise Apple's SKAdNetwork reports installs from our ads anonymously. See the full privacy policy.
